The Director, Commercial Analytics is responsible for playing a key role in the Commercial Department at ION. By managing analyses from start to finish, you will apply analytical methodologies to data, and extract meaningful insights that successfully position ION for maximizing revenue and optimizing commercial load. You will partner and work cross-functionally with Senior Management and other teams including Traffic, Pricing & Inventory, Marketing and Promotions teams to communicate insights and data. You will play a critical role in analyzing traffic patterns, trends, and ad loads through standard dashboards, as well as ad hoc analyses.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an innovative individual who thinks critically about data in order to tell the story and communicate it to stakeholders, and wants to expand analytical capabilities to approach data from new perspectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Evaluate commercial loads, promo time and programming formats to optimize ION’s advertising inventory;
  • Lead the analysis of changes in traffic and commercial patterns, combining data analysis and meetings with various stakeholders; Own follow ups and track progress;
  • Manage analytics workflow: Mine data; Spot trends and deepen analysis to tell the story; Clearly present insights in professional PowerPoint slides;
  • Serve as analytics subject matter expert, providing training and development opportunities to Commercial team;
  • Implement process improvements, including automation of quantitative tools and dashboards

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline;
  • 4+ years of relevant experience, preferably in media or advertising;
  • Strategic thinker with a proven track record of combining data and business acumen to distill complex data sets to actionable insights;
  • Sense of curiosity, attention to detail and comfort with ambiguity;
  • Expertise with reporting tools and business intelligence tools like MicroStrategy, Cognos, Business Objects or Tableau;
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills;
  • Experience with databases and programming language a plus (SQL, VB);
  • Knowledge of statistical software (R, SAS) is a plus

The Commercial Ingest Technician is responsible for commercial ingest operations for ION Media stations. The ideal individual will be a clear and professional communicator with a proven track record of accurate process implementation.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Enter timing and commercial file information into automation system;
  • Prepare files for QC review and on-air play out;
  • Manage server space by executing commercial purge requests;
  • Follow up with commercial discrepancies written up by QC staff;
  • Complete commercial requests in a timely and efficient manner;
  • Provide feedback and report technical issues to engineers;
  • Train with and backup other team members as needed

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Broadcast-related degree preferred;
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a broadcast network environment;
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, after hours, when needed;
  • Experience with various broadcast software and systems such as routers, playout servers, file delivery, transfer, transcoding, traffic, and automation systems;
  • Strong knowledge of the following digital formats such as MXF XD Cam 50, MXF IMX 30, H.264, mpeg2, QuickTime MOV;
  • Knowledge of Broadcast conversion formats (1080i, 720p, 480i) and aspect ratios;
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding Tektronix scopes in relation to acceptable broadcast video/gamut and audio loudness levels;

The Chief Broadcast Engineer is responsible for the leadership and management of all day-to-day technical and business operations of one of an ION Media station group location. This hands-on individual will manage and maintain all broadcast equipment and systems used in the daily operation of the station as well as any ancillary systems used in the support and troubleshooting of technical issues as they arise. The Chief Broadcast Engineer will also work closely with the Station Engineer/Technician in developing an understanding of the administrative needs of the station should the need arise for coverage. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manage and maintain all broadcast equipment/systems responsible for daily on-air operation of the station; Use of RF engineering knowledge to maintain and repair all technical equipment in studio and transmitter facilities, satellite downlink/uplink, and microwave transmission systems;
  • Manage and maintain all ancillary systems responsible for supporting the on-air operation, such as HVAC, networking, electrical, and mechanical;
  • Exercise knowledge of FCC rules and regulations to protect the entity’s license;
  • Proactively engage with necessary third parties to resolve technical issues in an expedited manner as they arise;
  • Carry out troubleshooting as needed or escalate to Engineering Support for further diagnosis;
  • Implement new engineering projects as directed by RDE, Quality Assurance, or Engineering Support. Manage project(s) and report status to Regional Director of Engineering as needed;
  • 24/7 on-call availability to ensure continuous operation of the station;
  • May be responsible for certain administrative duties related to business and operation transactions;
  • Coordinate and oversee training program for Station Technicians;
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electronic) or a related field and/or a minimum of five (5) years of experience in broadcast station operations or engineering; Bachelor’s degree is preferred;
  • Broadcast Engineering Certification, i.e. FCC license, Society of Broadcast Engineer (SBE) certification, would be a plus;
  • High proficiency with computers to include Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Strong time management skills in meeting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail;
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the region on an as needed basis;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record;

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Manage a team of Sales Assistants;
  • Manage the setting of rate cards and placing inventory to maximize revenue and returns;
  • Proactively manage ad inventory forecasting, rate card pricing and packaging strategies with Local Sales Management and Chief Commercial Officer;

The Station Engineer is responsible for working together with the Chief Broadcast Engineer on the day-to-day technical and business operations of an ION Station. This hands-on individual will have the day-to-day responsibilities for monitoring, controlling and reporting the operability of the station’s central cast rack and transmitter operations, as well as have the opportunity to work closely with the Chief Broadcast Engineer in the maintenance of the studio and transmitter, and distribution delivery equipment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Monitor, control and report to the operability of station’s central cast rack and transmitter operations;
  • Monitor and report station outages;
  • Work together with Chief Broadcast Engineer in daily operation of studio, transmitter, and distribution delivery;
  • Troubleshoot television transmitter and facility issues with Chief Broadcast Engineer;
  • Maintain systems responsible for supporting the on-air operation, such as HVAC, networking, electrical, and mechanical;
  • Partner with legal and corporate in the maintenance of the station public file in accordance with FCC requirements. Track and confirm FCC online station files;
  • At the direction of the Chief Broadcast Engineer:
    • Liaise for all cable, DBS, and Telco operators within market;
    • Operate, log and maintain EAS tests and equipment;
    • Proactively engage with necessary third parties to resolve technical issues in an expedited manner as they arise;
    • Carry out troubleshooting as needed or escalate to engineering support for further diagnosis;  
  • May be responsible for certain administrative duties related to business and operation transactions;
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures including corporate guidelines and best practices;

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Electronic) or a related field and/or a minimum of three (3) years of experience in broadcast engineering; Bachelor’s degree is preferred;
  • Comfort and willingness to learn, implement, and operate new technology related to broadcasting and content delivery;
  • Strong proficiency with computers to include Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines;
  • Must be physically able to bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 35 lbs., as well as climb on step-stools, ladders and other necessary equipment;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to transmitter sites and travel throughout the region on an as needed basis;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record;
