The Traffic Manager is responsible for scheduling and finalizing the daily traffic logs as well as managing short and long term avails across the Network & Digital station inventory.   This person will also solicit traffic instructions and commercial content from the advertising agencies and commercial delivery vendors.  Traffic Manager will also engage in daily communication and coordination with internal Pricing & Inventory and Sales departments.  We are searching for a personable and diligent individual who is conscientious and dependable. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work directly with the Network and/or Digital P&I / Commercial Ops Sales team to maximize inventory and control oversell
  • Audit placement to confirm that all spots are given required separation, rotation and check for possible conflicts prior to log locking
  • Coordinate directly with agencies to acquire commercial copy instructions and creative
  • Monitor exceptions for current week by day part and rate to optimize avails
  • Daily and direct communication with Sales team regarding any pre or post log issues such as spot count, cancellations, hiatus and new/revised orders

The Senior Vice President of Station Operations is responsible for the leadership and management of all day-to-day operations of the ION Station Group.  ION does not have any local production.  We are searching for a detail-oriented and dynamic leader with the requisite management skills and business acumen to apply the rigor required in a changing media landscape. The ideal candidate would partner with major third party partners in successful lease negotiations for towers as well as broadcast studios, understand ROI, manage costs and improve processes. The position would lead a team of over 120 across the country including broadcast and transmitter engineers.  The ideal candidate would have the ability to bridge the technical and business with emphasis on the business.
This hands-on individual will direct, manage, develop and mentor the team to ensure their managerial and operational skills support and facilitate an open, collaborative and high performance environment, and lead the team in successfully developing and implementing a talent strategy to meet current and future business needs.

Responsibilities - Management

  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships across the organization, lead and manage groups through change and growth, and develop and manage a diverse workforce

OVERVIEW:

The RF Transmitter Project Manager will work on the day-to-day support and integration of technology at the 60 broadcast stations of ION Media, nationwide. The position is hands on with a very heavy emphasis on project management and requires a complete understanding of the technical operation of a television station and network.   The role includes working side by side with the VP Engineering, Support and Services on the strategy, plan and implementation of the spectrum realignment at broadcast television facilities nationwide over the next three years. The individual will need to understand the broadcast technology and equipment at the facilities as well as the rules and regulations outlined by the FCC as it pertains to regulatory, financial and technical requirements related to the repack proceedings.  In depth knowledge in one or more of the following engineering disciplines including RF, STL and broadcast IP systems.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient in technical construction techniques both hands on and project management.

  • Familiar with commercial/broadcast applications for Building Infrastructure, Integration and Electronics.

  • Able to understand and execute electrical and mechanical calculations such as electrical loads and distribution, power factors, heat loads, transmitter TPO and ERP

  • Able to perform transmission systems design, implementation and quality assurance

  • Propose and create system designs, specifications and illustrations to align the broadcast model with ION strategies and visions

  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems

  • Interact heavily with vendors, contractors, landlords, local municipalities and other staff to design, implement  and execute broadcast system construction related projects

  • Upgrades and/or maintain broadcast related equipment at all ION stations

  • Operate and troubleshoot broadcast related equipment standard to the industry

  • Times of heavy travel may be required to complete requirements gathering and ensure project progression

  • Other duties as assigned.

     

SKILLS:

  • EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training or work experience

  • 5 years of experience in television broadcast engineering   

  • Track record in multi-task project management in a technical environment

  • Knowledge and/or familiarity of; IOT and solid state transmitters (UHF and VHF), transmission systems including combiners, filters, antennas and line, high voltage, tower structures, and microwave STL equipment

  • Ability to perform transmitter proofs, line sweeps and other electrical measurements a plus

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team setting

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to remain focused and multi-task during multiple emergency off-air situations

  • Must be able to meet deadlines quickly while maintaining attention to detail

  • Proficient with standard office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical publications, professional journals, white papers, instructional manuals, schematics and technical procedures

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.

OVERVIEW:

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the technical and business operations of a specific Television Station, including, electromechanical equipment, playout automation, traffic, FCC compliance, and administrative responsibilities. 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor, control and report to TOC the operability of station’s master control and transmitter operations
  • Monitor and report station outages
  • Work together with Chief Engineer in daily operation of studio, transmitter, and distribution delivery
  • Maintain systems responsible for supporting the on-air operation, such as HVAC, networking, electrical, and mechanical.
  • Maintain station Public File in accordance with FCC requirements. Track and confirm FCC online station files.
  • Generate and submit quarterly Public Affairs and other reports.
  • Liaison for all cable, DBS, and Telco operators within market.
  • Operate, log and maintain EAS tests and equipment.
  • Proactively engage with necessary third parties to resolve technical issues in an expedited manner as they arise.
  • Carry out troubleshooting as needed or escalate to Engineering Support for further diagnosis.
  • Act as alternate Chief Operator for proofing and attesting to logs
  • Knowledge and ability to re-establish connectivity with transmitter
  • Ability to understand, operate and originate programming from master control
  • Must be able to cover master control during designated times as well as special programming events.
  • Responsible for generating, editing and verifying accuracy of daily program logs ensuring all paid programs, local spot and commercials run in compliance with agency instructions.
  • Work with Corporate Traffic for library and network needs
  • Work with Sales to ensure accurate processing of all orders, copy, make-goods, and discrepancies.
  • Order office supplies as needed, within budget parameters
  • Produce various reports and projects for Regional Operations Manager.
  • Assist with facility leasing consideration.

SKILLS:

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in Business, Communications, Engineering or IT Systems field
  • Experience in broadcast station operations or engineering is preferred.
  • Some understanding, via course work, of applicable electrical, computer networking, mechanical, structural and civil engineering methods is desired.
  • Knowledge of FCC broadcasting rules preferred
  • Knowledge of basic technical understanding of traffic workflow system preferred
  • Comfort and willingness to learn, implement, and operate new technology related to broadcasting and content delivery
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Specific understanding of television operations, connectivity, video switching, IP networking, including equipment
  • Must be physically able to bend, lift and carry up to a maximum of 70 pounds, as well as climb on step-stools, ladders and other necessary equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to transmitter sites and travel throughout the region on an as needed basis.
